Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information PassFoodSafety ("we," "us") collects and how we use it. It is written in plain English and is provided for general information; it is not legal advice.
1. Who we are
PassFoodSafety is an independent website offering free practice tests for the ServSafe® Food Handler exam. We are not affiliated with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. You can reach us at hello@passfoodsafety.com or by mail at Rua 8, n.º 589, 4500-370 Espinho, Portugal.
2. Information we collect
- No accounts. We do not require you to sign up or log in, and we do not ask for your name, email or payment details to use the practice tests.
- Quiz progress (stored on your device). When you complete a test or quiz, your score and progress are saved in your browser's local storage. This stays on your device, is not sent to us, and you can clear it at any time (see "Your choices").
- Basic server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically record standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit, for security and to keep the site running. We do not use this to identify you personally.
3. Cookies & local storage
We use your browser's local storage to remember your quiz progress and whether you've dismissed our site notice. These are first-party and functional, they are not used to track you across other websites.
Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed, how long visits last, approximate location, and what device or browser is used. Google Analytics sets cookies and may process your IP address for this purpose. This helps us see what's working and improve the site; it does not identify you personally. Data is processed by Google under its own privacy policy. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser settings.
Advertising: PassFoodSafety is free to use and plans to be supported by advertising in the future. We do not currently display ads, and no third-party advertising cookies are in use as of the date above. If we enable third-party advertising, those partners may set cookies or use similar technologies to show relevant ads and measure performance. We will update this policy and our on-site notice before that happens, and provide the opt-out choices described below.
4. How we use information
To operate and secure the site, to save your progress on your own device, to understand site usage through analytics, and, once advertising is enabled, to support the site through ads. We do not sell your personal information.
5. Your choices & US privacy rights
You can clear your saved progress at any time using the "Reset progress" option on the site, or by clearing your browser's storage. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics specifically using the tool linked above.
Depending on where you live (for example, California under the CCPA/CPRA, and similar laws in other US states), you may have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct it, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not currently share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If that changes when advertising is enabled, we will honor opt-out requests and recognized opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control (GPC). To exercise any privacy right, email us at hello@passfoodsafety.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
6. Children's privacy
This site is intended for a general, working-age audience preparing for a job-related exam. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
7. Data retention & security
Progress data lives only in your browser until you clear it. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and operations. We serve the site over HTTPS and take reasonable measures to protect it, though no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example, when we introduce advertising or analytics. We'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, post a notice on the site.
